[ How it works ]

The program,
start to finish

Everything a pastor, parent or youth leader needs to know about how a Quiz Meet year runs, from the quiz book in a quizzer’s hands to the weekend they compete at.

[ Memorization goals ]

Choose a
memorization goal

At the start of each year, every quizzer chooses one of three memorization goals. All three are tremendous accomplishments, and broken down week by week, even these large goals become attainable.

Whether a quizzer memorizes 30 verses, Club 150, or the full material, we celebrate every verse memorized, knowing even one verse can be used by God in the life of each quizzer.

[ The material ]

All on the
same page

Every quizzer in Quiz Meet, regardless of location, memorizes from the same material each year and keeps much of the same pace through it. So when churches gather for a Quiz Meet weekend, every quizzer is on the same page. The material follows an eight-year cycle of Scripture in the New King James Version.

The small and large quiz books

The quiz book

A coil-bound book holding the year’s Scripture, the Club 150 and Club 300 verse lists, and study resources.

The eight-year cycle

Then the cycle repeats, starting again with Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians

[ Weekly practice ]

One practice
a week

From September through May, quizzers gather for a weekly practice at their own church. The structure of a typical practice looks something like this:

1

Fellowship

Quizzers arrive, connect with friends, and enjoy some casual fellowship together.

2

Scripture

Quizzers read the weekly Scripture passage out loud together, one verse at a time.

3

Devotional

A leader shares a thought from the weekly passage to encourage the quizzers’ walk with Christ.

4

Practice

Teams quiz on the benches while a Quiz Meet leader asks them questions from the verses they memorized.

5

Recite

While quizzers quiz on the benches, one quizzer at a time recites the verses they memorized that week to a verse listener.

[ The quiz ]

Welcome to
a quiz

Three electronic benches are connected to a control box with 12 lights that show the quizmaster which of the 12 quizzers jumped first. Each bench represents one team of up to four quizzers. The quizmaster announces the question type and begins reading the question. As soon as a quizzer jumps, their light turns on and the quizmaster stops reading, even in the middle of a sentence. The quizzer who jumped first is called on and given 30 seconds to answer correctly, earning points for their team, before sitting back down to get ready for the next question.

Questions

30

Seconds to answer

It’s a delicate balance. Jump early and you beat the other quizzers to the answer, but you may have heard only a couple of words. Wait for more of the question, and someone else may beat you to the jump. A correct answer earns your team points; an error means your team sits out the next question, giving the other two teams an advantage.

[ The inner workings ]

Types of questions

Every answer is word for word from the NKJV text. Tap one of the question types below to see how each question type asks something unique, even though every question is about the same verse.

Example verse

John 8:19 · Club 150

Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”

The answer

{{ exA }}

“Question number one… question” works like “on your marks, get set, go” in a race. It gets every quizzer ready for the moment the question begins.

[ Quiz Meet weekends ]

Three weekends
a year

Churches gather from across each province for a weekend packed with friendly competition and incredible memories. Quiz Meets motivate quizzers to keep memorizing, act as checkpoints throughout the year, and give quizzers the opportunity to build friendships founded on God’s Word, even with quizzers from other churches.

Competition

Teams of three to four quizzers from each church quiz tournament-style, with the top teams in each division advancing to the finals. Families and congregations can come cheer them on live all weekend.

Quizzers and coaches together between quizzes

Community

[ Competitive divisions ]

Challenging,
not discouraging

Multiple memorization goals, multiple quizzing divisions, but one purpose: to encourage each quizzer in the verses they have memorized, while challenging them to memorize even more of God’s Word.
